Nine Queens Freeski 2011 Event

What happens if you build a distinctive jump obstacle in the perfect setting and invite the best athletes, photographers and film crews from all over the world??

The Suzuki NINE QUEENS is a unique freeski event for girls only. Nine of the world’s best female freeskiers ride a distinctive jump feature, The Chateau, in Austria’s great skiing region of Serfaus Fiss Ladis to conquer the free-skiing crown. Marker Volkl team rider, Virginie Faivre hosted the event and MVD team riders Emma Dahlstrom and Ashley Battersby were invited to attend.

Here is a wicked photo by Ruedi Fluck of Emma Dahlstrom:

The contest day of the first ever NINE QUEENS event was truly one for the history books of free-skiing when Maria Bagge (wearing Rip Curl Rubix Jacket) won the big air contest in front of Canadian, Kaya Turski – both landing the first EVER switch 1080s in women’s free-skiing!!! Emma placed 3rd and Ashley 6th in competition.

Here is a short clip of Maria and Kaya nailing the 1080s in competition:
